Synopsis

The start of a critically acclaimed historical romance series by New York Times bestselling author Courtney Milan...

Hugo Marshall earned the nickname "the Wolf of Clermont" for his ruthless ambition--a characteristic that has served him well, elevating the coal miner's son to the right hand man of a duke. When he's ordered to get rid of a pestering governess by fair means or foul, it's just another day at work.

But after everything Miss Serena Barton has been through at the hands of his employer, she is determined to make him pay. She won't let anyone stop her--not even the man that all of London fears. They might call Hugo Marshall the Wolf of Clermont, but even wolves can be brought to heel...

    Complex, touching, and wonderful

Milan's characters feel real, and the impediments to their relationships are things that seem both of their time and easy for the modern reader to identify with. I was intrigued from the beginning, and every page I turned made me care more deeply about these characters. It's not just the main characters that are well-rounded; the secondary characters are too, and react to things in interesting ways which move the plot. This may be novella-length, but when I finished it I felt the emotional satisfaction that I would after reading a full-length novel.

    Witty & sharp

Love the repartee, love the satisfying plot. Even as a novella this was like a length of finely wrought tapestry - good color, texture and rich undertones hinting of interesting stories going on behind it. I will be sure to purchase more of this authors work.

    Refreshing

Great quick read. Good twist to a typical historical romance. I've found a new author to read.
