Synopsis

INTRODUCING JACK REACHER
The bestselling novel featuring the "wonderfully epic hero" (People) who inspired the hit film Jack Reacher.

Ex-military policeman Jack Reacher is a drifter. He’s just passing through Margrave, Georgia, and in less than an hour, he’s arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. All Reacher knows is that he didn’t kill anybody. At least not here. Not lately. But he doesn’t stand a chance of convincing anyone. Not in Margrave, Georgia. Not a chance in hell.

Fast paced & a real page turner. Hadn't realized it was Lee Child's 1st. novel @ the beginning till read later on. The research that he has done on a variety of topics is marvellous - just enough that you remain interested but not too much that it bores you to death or you skip those parts, ie: how the crooks printed $1.00 bills to $100's. With this talent it's no wonder he kept on writing.

I started with the recent One Shot novel and it got me interested in the protagonist. I read this first novel and one can see that Lee Child has progressed as an author through when I compare this to one shot. Nonetheless, the story is intriguing and keeps one guessing well into late in the novel. Lee Child does well to integrate the sleep town of Margrave within his story line serving up one of the classic close knit towns with a secret motif. Am now going to work my way through the series and am on book 2.

This introduction to Jack Reacher does not let you down, with a plot that is a page turner you will get to know about Jack Reacher and his rules of conduct that he has made for himself. This does not mean that he always follows them and sometimes to his own detriment. Great Read. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a thriller and fast paced book.

All Jack Reacher stories are exciting, suspenseful and have a twist or logic which only an experienced investigator would be able to see. Once commenced they are very hard to put down.

Loved the book.Grips you and has enough turns to be interesting. Love the hero. A gentleman with a strong sense of right and wrong and does his part to keep the world a place safe from the bad. And love the concept of having no fixed abode, no luggage. Only thing is the Jack Reacher in my imagination is so not Tom Cruise! He is much taller, heavier and better looking!

Fast-paced action-thriller athat also gives the reader space to soak in the atmospheres and reflect on what the hell is actually happening. Yes, the books follow the boy-meets-girl and saves [his honour/her honour/national security ..whatever] ... of course they do, is what sells books! But this series is written so well that you just keep coming back for more!

I decided to read the Jack Reacher novels in order that they were written, but there really isn't any need. Each novel is able to read as a stand alone not really part of a sequel of events. I throughly enjoyed the read and would recommend for those interested in fiction with a bit of a twist. Enjoy.....

I am now a Jack Reacher fan and just started reading the 2nd book. The story is constantly moving along and as it reveals more, it leaves more questions and you just have to keep reading to find out what happens. Loved it.

This first book in the Jack Reacher series is a beauty. A can't put down mystery that keeps the reader asking 'why?' The perfect introduction to Jack's capacity for compassion, generosity and violence. These traits shouldn't mix but they do - and in superb style. Highly recommended.

Comic Book Hero
May 14th, 2013
I was introduced to Reacher in the 2011 prequel to this book, The Affair. Lee child's writing style has matured in the years between this, his first book, and the one I first read. Although the stories are in sequence according to Reacher's life, there is a big difference -- almost a step back -- in the reading experience. Also, because The Affair was written later, there is no reference to the love interest from that story in this one, and the way this story unfolds, there should be. But it is a minor quibble. The central mystery in this story leaves me with many questions as to its plausibility. The author glosses over it, leaving you to try and work it out for yourself rather than addressing it directly. Sure it's a great story, like a comic book or cartoon, so long as you simply accept it and decide not to pick at the holes in the plot. And speaking of comic books, Reacher is like some kind of an action hero from a graphic novel. I'm still trying to decide if I'm okay with that level of simplistic content, or if I will ultimately get tired of it and end up wanting more depth. I don't know.

An entertaining story, but it would be a little more believable if Jack Reacher didn't always come out on top in the face of insurmountable odds.
