Synopsis

Angel says that Fang will be the first to die, and Angel is never wrong. Maximum Ride is used to living desperately on the run from evil forces sabotaging her quest to save the world--but nothing has ever come as close to destroying her as this horrifying prophetic message. Fang is Max's best friend, her soul mate, her partner in the leadership of her flock of winged children. A life without Fang is a life unimaginable.

When a newly created winged boy, the magnificent Dylan, is introduced into the flock, their world is upended yet again. Raised in a lab like the others, Dylan exists for only one reason: he was designed to be Max's perfect other half. Thus unfolds a battle of perfection versus passion that terrifies, twists, and turns . . . and meanwhile, the apocalypse is coming.

cliché

Wow, basically everything that drew me in from the first book is thrown away and replaced with everything you can hate about teen literature. There's the confused, needy heroine who consistently needs affirmation from her compatriot the moody sidekick hero/leading man. The plot starts to once again try to develop something interesting, like in the first three books --nothing revolutionary or completely original, but at least something more complex and engaging than the snooze fest of books four and five; and then we have the stunning return of boring plot twists to advance the story. Because the author has SIX characters to draw from, including the main character Max, we get mostly; Max, OK, she's the main character. When not being dramatic about Fang, she's enjoyable. Fang, but gratingly, unlike the previous glimpses into his character which revealed something beyond his infatuation (apparently) with Max, we get nothing but the other half of the MaxFang dynamic. So if you could pick a third character to potentially develop after two books completely immersed in the same trio of characters... We are returned to the ever grating, spoiled, selfish and DULL character of the brat Angel to complete the sludge of recycled ideas. She would be far more interesting if the author could commit her to a side instead of pointless goodbadgood. This series is like the little engine that could puttered to a stop inches from the peak. Best part was the commentary from Fang's blog.
