Great first series novel

I had forgotten the key differences between the show and the books! Sookie is a stronger character in the books than in the show.

I loved, loved, loved this book. The characters are real, funny, and easy to relate to. Not your usual vampire story. Very refreshing.

Good book

I just read my first charlaine Harris book, and I found it to be a very easy read. I'm more familiar with the show so it will be a little difficult to adapt to the difference. Other then all that the book was great. I did think it would be longer though.

The True Blood show is actually better than the book. But since I've seen all the shows. The book was the next best thing. All in all the book was an easy read and a 3.5. The writing is a little weak. I'm hoping it strengthens in the books to follow.

I love this series!!
May 18th, 2013
I'm reading ALL of the novels again, I love the way the series ended, especially after reading the last book, and seeing how she tied everything together!!!<3 I think ANYONE WHO THINKS THIS DIDN'T END ON A HIGH NOTE IS NUTS!!!! Go BACK and read the ENTIRETY of this collection again, then tell me how you could be disappointed? Just because the cast of trueblood contains some who are sexier than others doesn't mean Sookie should end up in the arms of a certain someone. I give Charlaine Harris kudos for staying true to the characters instead of the show!!! I see a lot of miniseries being made from books on HBO, and if I were a novelist I would most likely stay involved with the creation like George R.R. Martin, A Song of Ice and Fire series novelist, just because I do not like what the writers have done to her characters. Casting had to know the theme and feel of each character, and they did the job right, but the fans aren't giving her the love she deserves, and that is sad. If not for Charlaine Harris, who would've introduced us to these characters? NO ONE!!!!! Keep that in mind the next time any of the threatening fans want to threaten this amazingly creative woman, or WRITE YOUR OWN FANFICTION!!!! Don't down the creator of this world!!! I think Sookie is where she needs to be, I think she's happy, and I for one, am very satisfied with how this turned out. I think having your world turned into something else entirely on a tv show, has to be disappointing. Her books are better than the show, and I think her journey from book to tv, is a cautionary tale to ANYONE who options of the rights to any television network, to remain in the light, to not let someone else have creative control on "interpreting" what you have done so well, without "interpretation". Look to George R.R. Martin, as well as the new HBO miniseries, American Gods, both of these authors have creative control of the script. AND THAT'S THE WAY IT SHOULD BE FOLKS!!!!! GREAT JOB CHARLAINE HARRIS!!!!

This was my fifth time reading this book. With every reading, I get more involved in the story. I get excited when I decide to start the book. I relearn the characters. Then I've finished the book & I'm a little sad. The books always end in a way that I can't wait to start the next book. So far this is my favorite book in the series
