Synopsis

Don't miss this spectacular new young adult fantasy series from C.C. Hunter! Born at Midnight will steal your heart and haunt your dreams. Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen…

One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever.  Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren't just "troubled." Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.

Kylie's never felt normal, but surely she doesn't belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn't complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek's a half-fae who's determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin' hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn't be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.

Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…

I really liked this book from the start. It has all the supernatural beings in it but it has enough of a twist that lets it stand out as original. Couldn't wait to read the next book!

I have to say I felt so embarrassed in when I started to laugh on the bus during a scene then when I was in the subway I started to cry. This book to make me feel to different emotions was written so very well. I loved it so damn much to make me feel like this. Not to mention that I love how there was many species of monsters in this book not just Vampires or werewolves. There was even shapeshifters in it!!! who can't love being able to turn into any animal you want if your good at it. Each character in this book was so unique and so very cool that even if they were side characters I loved them too. Kylie is a good girl just having a hard time with her parents getting a divorce , which I'm sure is hard on all kids. She gets caught at a party that had drugs but she didn't take anything but still ended up going to a camp said to help Juvenile delinquents. So not only does she not belong there her parents don't care and still ship her off. She's confused at first at this new place but slowly she started to fit in and make friends even. Even when she isn't sure of herself throughout the book on who she is, she learns to accept herself as on of the supernaturals. While there she goes attracted to Derek but her attention is also on the wolf Lucas. She doesn't know who she loves and it confuses her throughout the book. Derek is half Fea and he's like Kylie trying to hide who he really is not wanting anything to do with it. He also had a sad past because of his father leaving him which is also contributing to why he didn't want the gifts he got. Lucas wasn't shown much in this book but there was interaction between him and Kylie and you do know that they knew each other when they were kids. I hope in the next book you learn more of him. Della is a vampire and only wants to be accepted by both Kylie and Miranda but it's hard when you have to drink blood and the others don't. Though slowly the three of them grow closer together and Della is one of Kylie's best friends. Miranda is a witch who struggles with her magic. She becomes Kylie's friend and her, Kylie and Della talk about everything together and soon with the help of Kylie she learns to become better with her magic. As for the relationships in this book it's kind of slow. Yes Kylie feels something for both Lucas and Derek it's hard for her to admit it after what happen with her ex boyfriend Tray. After having him break up with her because she wouldn't put out she felt heart broken and doesn't help matters when she see some similarities in Derek and him like how they look somewhat. Though you do see some kissing which you would wish for more by the end of the book I only hope there is more in the next volume. As for the plot I loved it, with Kylie trying to learn what she is and how to deal with her issues in life makes for a good plot. As well as a good lead in with the characters and their life and the bad guys of the series. It should be interesting to read the rest of the series I can't wait to start book Two!

I liked
April 23rd, 2013
Some grammatical errors, can count on one hand, but I liked the story line. Not entirely the typical new age vampire corny love story. Thank you Hunter for not making the two love interests vampires. A little slow but that could be because there being way more questions than answers given sometimes bothers me. No flaw of the the author. Thank you for making your first book so cheap. More authors should do that, because now I feel more loyalty towards Hunter for giving me the opportunity to read a long book for cheap, judge the quality and effectively decide if I would like to buy the next book for regular price. I just bought the second book of the series and will begin reading it now:-) If you are still undecided as to whether or not to purchase and read this book.. Just do it! 3 dollars is nothing you cheap skate,.. Give this author a go!

Too judgemental character.
March 9th, 2013
I'm not a big fan of this book. I'm sorry I bought it. I didn't like how Kylie was very judgemental. It's a pet peeve of mine so I was turned off right away. Good concept though - a camp for paranormal. It would be very interesting if it really did exist.
