Synopsis

A Time Magazine Top 10 Fiction book for 2011

One of the Wall Street Journal's Top 10 Mysteries of the Year 2011

Prepare for The Hypnotist to cast its spell

In the frigid clime of Tumba, Sweden, a gruesome triple homicide attracts the interest of Detective Inspector Joona Linna, who demands to investigate the murders. The killer is still at large, and there's only one surviving witness--the boy whose family was killed before his eyes. Whoever committed the crimes wanted this boy to die: he's suffered more than one hundred knife wounds and lapsed into a state of shock. Desperate for information, Linna sees only one option: hypnotism. He enlists Dr. Erik Maria Bark to mesmerize the boy, hoping to discover the killer through his eyes.

It's the sort of work that Bark has sworn he would never do again--ethically dubious and psychically scarring. When he breaks his promise and hypnotizes the victim, a long and terrifying chain of events begins to unfurl.

An international sensation, The Hypnotist is set to appear in thirty-seven countries, and it has landed at the top of bestseller lists wherever it's been published--in France, Holland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Denmark. Now it's America's turn. Combining the addictive power of the Stieg Larsson trilogy with the storytelling drive of The Silence of the Lambs, this adrenaline-drenched thriller is spellbinding from its very first page.

A gruesome beginning, this book draws you in with suspense and drama. Kepler truly weaves an intriguing tale with strong characters and excellent sub-plots as well. Loved the book.

Enjoyed this book.

This is a very enjoyable mystery for those who have a good tolerance of violence and torture. I give it 4 stars only because it contains the longest flashback I have ever seen, which detracts a bit from the flow of the story.

The Hypnotist

This was a suprisingly good book, full of mystery and thrills---just what I like in a novel! At every turn, it seemed, there was something new going on and at one point, I wondered how the author could keep up with his own storytelling. It was actually that noticeable to me. Then when I finish the book, i find there is not just one author! There are two people, working as a team trying to appear as one person, writing this book! Sneaky, sneaky! But speaking from a purely enjoyable standpoint, I have rated this book a 4 star! It was a truely fun and engaging read! It took me a short time to read, because it was hard to put down. The book was interesting, entertaining, informative, disturbing sometimes, believable, educational, and captivating! If you like a good mix of murder, mystery, detective, and professional characters.............you're going to want to read this book! Have fun!
