Synopsis

In 1978 Stephen King introduced the world to the last Gunslinger, Roland of Gilead.  Nothing has been the same since. Over twenty years later the quest for the Dark Tower continues to take readers on a wildly epic ride. Through parallel worlds and across time, Roland must brave desolate wastelands and endless deserts, drifting into the unimaginable and the familiar as the road to the Dark Tower extends beyond its own pages. A classic tale of colossal scope—crossing over terrain from The Stand, The Eyes of the Dragon, Insomnia, The Talisman, Black House, Hearts in Atlantis, ‘Salem’s Lot and other familiar King haunts—the adventure takes hold with the turn of each page.

And the tower awaits…

The First Volume in the Epic DARK TOWER Series…

The Gunslinger

This heroic fantasy is set in a world of ominous landscape and macabre menace that is a dark mirror of our own. A spellbinding tale of good versus evil, it features one of Stephen King’s most powerful creations—The Gunslinger, a haunting figure who embodies the qualities of the lone hero through the ages, from ancient myth to frontier western legend.

The Gunslinger’s quest involves the pursuit of The Man in Black, a liaison with the sexually ravenous Alice, and a friendship with the kid from Earth called Jake. Both grippingly realistic and eerily dreamlike, here is stunning proof of Stephen King’s storytelling sorcery.

Steven King was right

I agree with his self assessment in the intro, it reads like a young man wrote this book. It is also a good read though, captures you with mystery on top of mystery, and who doesn't want to learn about the death throws of a world.

Get ready to commit to an investment in exploring a fascinating world. King does not disapoint with the opening volume to a thoroughly engaging epic. I dare anyone who reads the first few pages of this book not to become a Dark Tower junkie!!

Roses, beams and a Tower.

No one can claim to be a true Stephen King fan, unless they have travelled the quest to seek the Tower with Roland and his ka-tet. This epic series shows peeks of itself, and it's ultimate goal in nearly every book King writes. 8 enormous books long, it's a commitment but completely worth it. Long after you finish, your mind will suddenly bring Roland's world back to gnaw on again...even years later.

Great Read

Enjoyed this novel very much. Knowing that the series has been finished and that I can lesiurly read each book KNOWING there is an ending is a pleasure. For those that have read the books at release.. it must have been quite nerve racking. Roland and his world and his journey and his life is great. Highly reccommended!

The Gunslinger

I used to wonder what this would look like in the movie . But now that it's many more years that I read it for the first time I can't think of any actors that would fit the part of Roland. It was much better the second time around but I don't remember it being this short. I do remember taking my time with it and I just remembered that it was longer. Overall though Stephen King is a genius and I'm glad that he was able to finish the series.

Of course, if you are a SK fan, you will know this is will be an awesome story! The first book in the series is the step into Rolan's world. Your imagination will just run into the next book to find out what continues. The imagination that it takes to write stories of this macabre just fascinates me.
