Truth be Told is the fictional account of the doings and undoings of a fascinating, diverse, outrageous, perhaps infamous, expatriate community in a small colonial Mexican town. San Miguel de Allende - which can now boast features in the New York Times and Conde Nast, among others - has been importing Americans, Canadians and the odd European since the 1930s. It is like no other town you might stumble upon. There are abundant art galleries, gourmet restaurants, a bilingual library, theatre, music, dance and of course, bridge clubs, but there are also burros, street vendors, tolling church bells, and gaudy, bawdy religious fiestas that last for days. This novel chronicles the escapades of a group of American women whose lives become entangled with the life of this eccentric town, and the inevitable hilarity and enlightenment that ensues. Salvador Dali once declared he couldn't live in Mexico because he could not abide living somewhere more surreal than his paintings, and San Miguel de Allende is one of Mexico's living, breathing masterpieces.
