sweet but lacking substance

This book is a pale shadow of Georgette Heyer regency romances which are my absolute favourite of this genre. The author makes good use of period detail but the dialogue seems unauthentic and too updated with contemporary phraseology. The plot is also implausible and a bit too easy to predict. The novel needs some secondary characters that are more than cardboard cut-outs and a big dash of humour, and a some true impediments to true love. Nevertheless despite its shortcomings it is a sweet book and an easy read.
