As a former Army A-V-I-A-T-O-R and now working for a DOD contactor, I remember hearing the stories about the Key West Agreement from the "Old Guys" and how the Air Force never could accept the concept of supporting the Army in a "direct support" role and how the Army had to use fire and maneuver techniques to get armed helicopters. We finally won but even today the Army still has to wage war with the Air Force to get the last tactical mile for cargo support. The Air Force killed the Army's last great hope to replace their aging Sherpas with the Spartan which would have filled that void. Some lessons need to be learned.
