Synopsis

In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.
But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.

    Fun Read!

I almost have a love/hate relationship with this book. On one hand, it was a fun read that was full of pop culture references, jokes, and just "fun" things! It went by almost too quickly, and I wanted more. Every page had a little something for everyone. On the other hand, the actual story was... meh? That might not be the right word but I found that when I sat down and thought about it, the story itself was kind of lacking. It felt almost too perfect for the protagonist and everything sort of fell in place. Now don't let that dissuade you! It's still a fun book if you enjoy the culture and a fun read! Just don't take it too seriously.

    My favourite book

This is an 80's nerd's dream story. It is loaded with gaming and pop culture references from that era. The story is both futuristic and nostalgic. It is one of the only novels that I have read twice and I will read it again for sure.

    Good book

It's a captivating book. Once i started i couldn't stop. You don't need to have grown up in the 80s to understand the references and appreciate the story. Finally a book for a geek like me. :)

    Surprisingly Awesome!!

I expected to enjoy this, but by the time I put it down I felt like it had been written just for me! Fast and compelling - if you loved anything about the 80's you'll relate to this story. It's absolutely worth a read.

An absolute blast from the past. This book is a celebration of 80s geek nostalgia. Every trope is covered from the neglected kid hero to the get fit montage. But the book has so much heart you are willing to forgive it. Must read for anyone who's watched a vhs tape till it disintegrated
