Synopsis

Josie told me she was murdered. When you're a lonely six-year-old, you don't really understand what that means. All you know is you're happy to have a friend to play with.

Patsy Whyte caught glimpses of an invisible world growing up in a children's home in Aberdeen. One of a family of ten traveller children, torn apart by the state in the 1950's, Patsy recalls a childhood scarred by years of mental and emotional abuse, prejudice and hatred.

Patsy left the home at the age of 15, angry, naive and ill-prepared, but with a will to survive which would be tested to the limit. She rubbed shoulders with the rich and powerful and the poorest in the land, and drifted into a world of violence, prostitution and drugs which almost claimed her life.

More than anything, No Easy Road is a testament to the survival of the human spirit.

From the Publisher: Patsy Whyte's debut autobiography, No Easy Road, recalls the earliest years of her life up until the age of 16. It is a true story, and a remarkable and frank account of her struggle to survive. "It's taken me more than 30 years to write about my experiences," she says.
"Fortunately, I've been blessed with a great memory. I can still remember people and places and incidents in the clearest of detail, even although so many years have passed." A second book is planned, taking Patsy's story forward through the rest of her teenage years. It promises to be as compelling as her first.

Life is hard. Some have it harder than other's. This author however appears to have lived the hardest life ever. Not to mention she must have lived as a child well past the age of maturity or she is really bad at math (ex. saying she lived at such and such a place for X number of months and then lived here, there, etc. it doesn't add up to the ages she quotes herself as being during the time-frame portrayed in the novel). Or maybe, she made a lot of this book up. Advertised as non-fiction but most of the stories are so unbelievable it simply can't be true. I'm sorry to say I just was not impressed with the overall whiny tone of the book.

I have been deeply touched by this book. I thought I had a hard life but it would turn into a dream compared to the life of this child. Thank you for sharing your story with me

Written with surprising attention to detail. As a social worker and probation officer I have known so many of the characters in this book both as clients and, so called, "colleagues". It touched on many huge issues which I am sure are still relevant today and which have still not been addressed.

Enjoyed the read but its not very well structured and an abrupt ending at a time w,hen more info could be given. The epilogue was poor with a far too condensed summary of the next thirty years of her life

Poorly written grammar and spelling, the story was a bit scrambled jumping forward some years and then back again with no proper direction. Seemed like it was home written with no editing. I would not recommend this book.
