The aim is to produce the definitive updated encyclopedia for the field of Biological Chemistry. The equivalent of a 3800 page, four-volume encyclopedia is envisioned, one that will comprehensively cover the entire field. Publication will be in on-line format only. To our knowledge, no such encyclopedia exists.

The market is University Libraries. Our target audience is reference use by advanced undergraduates, postgraduates and lecturers.

The articles will be in the form of reviews of the current status of the topic. The reviews will contain limited illustrations and tabular material. The articles will not be referenced, but will have an extensive list of further readings that are directly relevant to the topic. These readings will include: in-depth review papers, key secondary references that would lead the reader into the primary literature.

Experts will be recruited to write/update these articles. This will ensure the currency of the material and that there will be linkages to the primary literature.

The format of the encyclopedia will be alphabetical. This will mean that there will have to be full agreement ahead of time by the Section Editors on the exact Table of Contents. A glossary of terms and an index will complete the volume.

The Encyclopedia will be principally available on-line. The on-line version will allow for electronic searches and linkages to referenced articles and indexed terms.

  • This 4-volume set, thoroughly up-to-date and comprehensive, expertly captures this fast-moving field
  • Curated by two esteemed editors-in-chief and an illustrious team of editors and contributors, representing the state of the field
  • Suggestions for further readings offer researchers and students avenues for deeper exploration; a wide-ranging glossary aids comprehension
