Lose Yourself in the History, Opulence, and Elegance of the Thousand Islands

Cousins Amanda, Sophie, and Fanny Broadmoor are as close as sisters, but when their grandfather dies, the terms of his will just might destroy their bond. Seventeen-year-old Fanny has never put much stock in the conventions of society. In fact, she has given her heart to Michael, the family boat-keeper. But when she receives a surprising inheritance, she discovers just how oppressive society can be... and that she may be trusting the wrong people.

Dare she follow her heart and risk going against her family? What if she loses everything she's ever known? It all comes down to one choice: What does Fanny Broadmoor want her legacy to be?

Excellent read. Well written keeping the reader's interested. Great portrayal of character's emotions and the setting descriptors helped envision each scene.

I can't recommend this book. I found the characters moderately engaging, but the pacing of the story was definitely "off." It was pretty transparently designed to sell a sequel... or several sequels... and so kept bogging down in attempts to interest the reader in secondary characters and storylines. As the crowning insult to readers, the book stopped rather abruptly without providing even a provisional resolution to the plot. Like a soap opera, everything is left unresolved, demanding the audience to "tune in next time," or in this case, to buy the next book. Personally, I won't be buying it. The story just didn't interest me enough to merit investing more time or money in it.

Entertaining good view of life as it was in this time period. Although a bit slow to start, and story stopped in what seems like the middle of the story.

A Daughter's Inheritance

This is wonderful novel set in a time when wealth matter more than love when it comes to marriage. Family members try to influence the most important decisions in Fanny's life but she is not so easily manipulated much to her uncle's disappointment but he continues to try so he can control her inheritance. Well worth reading.

Fine character study.

An excellent study of greatly varying characters. The simple & humble tastes of Fanny & Michael, to the greedy & scheming Jonas. The closeness of the 3 girls made it very enjoyable reading.

Daughter's inheritance

The book was good. However there was a few errors. The thousand islands are at the head of the Lawrence River not at the mouth of the river. Also the St Lawrence Seaway did not exist in the 1800's. But it was a good book that needs another chapter to complete.
