It was 1968, and Ann Rule tapped out stories on an old fashioned typewriter in the basement of her
beach shack, with four noisy kids playing beside her. Changing the ribbon was a messy job, and a typing mistake meant Rule had to crumple up the page and start over. So she learned to NOT make mistakes. The words flowed from her fingers tips, as she typed each article from beginning to end, never tossing out a page. The lack of technology, however, wasn't Rule's biggest challenge. Crime writing was a male dominated field, where females were not welcome. The editor of the detective magazines told her to pick a male pen name because "Readers will never believe that a woman knows so much about crime." "Andy Stack" was born and "he" published over a thousand true crime articles over the next decade. At the request of Rule's diehard fans, we have launched RETRO ANN RULE TRUE CRIME SHORTS, recycled from those long ago articles Rule wrote as Andy Stack. Rule has definitely grown as an author since the early days, but her most avid readers will appreciate Rule in her raw form, in these tight yet informative crime stories. DANGER IN THE DORM chronicles a 1972 murder on what was considered one of the safest campuses in America. Dorm residents at Oregon State University felt so secure that some never bothered to lock their doors, unaware of the evil that lurked nearby. Everyone was shocked when the first girl was attacked. Soon there were more assaults. When honor student Nancy Wyckoff was murdered in her dorm room, detectives worked round the clock to catch her killer. But they were stumped when more victims came forward. The attacks did not seem to follow any pattern. DANGER IN THE DORM is one of Rule's earliest true crime stories published over four decades ago. In this RETRO ANN RULE TRUE CRIME SHORT, Rule reports on the tragedy that frightened students on campuses all over Oregon and beyond.

Another fantastic book by Ann Rule! This one wasn't lengthly, but it had all the drama and suspense of her other books. It's an older book, but nevertheless, just as terror-filled and informative as the rest.

Danger in the Dorm

Another great true crime story from arguably the world's premier true crime writer. Probably not of the very high standard of Ann`s more recent stories but one must keep two things mind - (1) This was one of the first writings by a then new author who was still learning the finer points and (2) This was written forty years ago prior to many advances in crime investigation and reporting. I have read many of this authors books and recommend her to any reader who enjoys reading reading well researched and well written true crime stories.

I'm used to a very in-depth story from Ann, and this one was a let- down.
