BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic to the Stars.

Becky Bloomwood has a fabulous flat in London’s trendiest neighborhood, a troupe of glamorous socialite friends, and a closet brimming with the season’s must-haves. The only trouble is, she can’t actually afford it—not any of it. Her job writing at Successful Saving magazine not only bores her to tears, it doesn’t pay much at all. And lately Becky’s been chased by dismal letters from the bank—letters with large red sums she can’t bear to read. She tries cutting back. But none of her efforts succeeds. Her only consolation is to buy herself something . . . just a little something.
Finally a story arises that Becky actually cares about, and her front-page article catalyzes a chain of events that will transform her life—and the lives of those around her—forever.

“Kinsella’s Bloomwood is plucky and funny. . . . You won’t have to shop around to find a more winning protagonist.”People
“If a crème brûlée could be transmogrified into a book, it would be Confessions of a Shopaholic.”The Star-Ledger
“A have-your-cake-and-eat-it romp, done with brio and not a syllable of moralizing. . . . Kinsella has a light touch and puckish humor.”Kirkus Reviews

Had me in fits of laughter
August 7th, 2014
This book was amazing - I hope the second lives up to this one! It had me in fits of laughter at times and other times I would find myself praying that she would do the right thing - making it a nail-biting read too! I recommend this for everyone! It's perfect!

The author establishes early on that her protagonist is a likable, funny woman, who is competent at her job, liked by friends, and a good sense of style. Her major flaw is that her job is that of a financial advisor for a magazine and because she cannot control her impulse to buy everything she wants, she is spiraling deeper and deeper into debt. The flaw in the book is that the author uses most of the book to tell us over and over again the information I wrote in the first two sentences. We never learn why this woman acts as she does, and it is easy to get bored with a character who becomes increasingly more shallow. Her ending is good, but it comes about sixty pages too late.

I cannot tell you how much this book had salvaged me from boring Saturday evenings I had planned. It's a fabulous, light-hearted, and utterly amazing read for anyone in the mood for a quick laugh and pick-me-up. A definite recommendation from my end!
