Trevor Haken - corrupt cop turned supergrass and now inspiration for UNDERBELLY 3 - tells his story in this explosive book. Detective Sergeant trevor Haken was one of the infamous Golden Mile's most crooked cops. Now he lives in hiding, in a hell of his own creation. Graduating from small bribes to stealing money and receiving kickbacks from drug dealers, Haken became an informant for the Wood Royal Commission into corruption in the New South Wales Police Service. the Commission's findings sent shockwaves through the police force and beyond, resulting in the dismissal and resignation of many officers, and the reorganisation of policing in the state. Haken's role in gathering evidence was crucial to the outcome of the Commission and highly dangerous. If anyone had searched him and found a wire, he would have been killed. And Haken was wired at least eighty times. the danger increased at every meeting. Remarkably, author Sean Padraic gained Haken's support and trust. Using Haken's words and testimony, CONFESSIONS OF A CROOKED COP is a startling exposé of a system that was supposed to uphold the truth and protect its citizens, but instead fell into chaos and had corruption at its very heart.

This book says a lot but only tells a little of what can and does happen when corruption takes over. Haken seems to think he is some sort of "white knight", but the truth is he is just another criminal who abused the role he was given. He seems to think that he was somehow hard done by when the truth is that he chose to tell all to save his own skin. Not only corrupt but also unable to accept the punishment he deserved. I do feel for his family, especially the children but again Haken must have been aware of the fallout and its effect and still chose to abuse the uniform and trust and in so doing betray every honest officer who has worn the same uniform. Sorry Mr Haken you are nothing but a cowardly corrupt criminal, may karma rise soon and give you the bite you deserve. This book is of some interest to those interested in just how corruption develops and continues. Hopefully it will never again get to the levels reached by Hagen and his few corrupt friends. They have done nothing but betray the good name of police everywhere.
