Spirit Never Dies
Chas and Joe, half Aboriginal, half Irish, grow up together, go to school together. The teachers do not like the mixed race boy, but Joe is determined to finish school, and gets a job at a small law firm. Chas, although trained as a master builder, becomes a jackaroo on a large station. One day Joe is brutally murdered. Chas is heart-broken, and leaves the station to become a buffalo hunter.
After a couple of years he travels to the East Indies with a Dutch friend. He starts building houses for the Dutch army and sells the horns and hides.
Chas feels lonely, marries a beautiful, native girl, and gets children. But his wife dies young, and feeling lonely again, he takes her sister as his wife.
Then war breaks out. Chas has become an old man. He’s still thinking of Joe. But maybe one day . . .
