Synopsis

This book chronicles the authors 7 ½ year circumnavigation. Starting and ending in Hawaii, sailing as far north as Alaska and south to New Zealand. In addition to covering the places visited there are many descriptions of problems encountered and how they were solved. Ranging from experiencing 70 knot winds, 50 foot waves, equipment and engine failures and the dealings with officials and bureaucrats around the world. Boarded by armed vigilantes in Indonesia, the author holding a Rumanian marine’s Uzi hostage and a fellow cruiser killed by escaped convicts in Panama, add excitement, not generally found in a sailing adventure.

    Definitely a travel log!

Although the writing is acceptable, the author often falls into very terse sentences that read more like bullet lists from his travel log than descriptive sentences. None of the photographs came through in this Kobo book -- very annoying! I also did not like the lists of place names visited in every chapter without hints on how to pronounce them. The occassional full and thoughtful description of some event was fun to read and the only thing that kept me reading this ebook. To me, this is a rough draft of a promising travel account.
