Synopsis

To survive in a ruined world, she must embrace the darkness…

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a walled-in city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten. Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them-the vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself dies and becomes one of the monsters.

Forced to flee her city, Allie must pass for human as she joins a ragged group of pilgrims seeking a legend-a place that might have a cure for the disease that killed off most of civilization and created the rabids, the bloodthirsty creatures who threaten human and vampire alike. And soon Allie will have to decide what–and who–is worth dying for…again.

Enter Julie Kagawa's dark and twisted world as an unforgettable journey begins.

Very good novel in all

A novel worthy of every penny and secondes given, the reason why I dont give it a perfect 5 is that in the final chapters things kinda become rash compaired to the others. You kinda feel that the novel could've used (AT LEAST) 1 or 2 extra chapters, but still a very good novel

By far one of the best books I have ever read. It takes the genre and flips it on its head. The characters have depth and you will get emotionally invested in their story and be pulling for more at the end but don't worry Ms Kagawa is not one to disappoint. Its dark and sweet and all around great.

Wasn't sure about this book but really liked Julie's Iron Series. After reading this found I could put it down and ordered all the rest of the series. Am eagerly awaiting the next installment. Surprisingly the next few books are also page turners. Cross between Hunger Games and Twilight books. Very well written! I would recommend reading this.

I really enjoyed this novel. It was fast paced inventive and a really new and interesting take on vampires, and the whole end of the world type book. I read it in four hours it was such a page turner. While I did thoroughly enjoy it some of the plot twists were a little predictable, but not so much that it ruined the experience All in all it was a very good story with great characters!

I thought this was a great book, how would people really survive if there was a disease that wiped out most of us. I think the author used great descriptions to make you feel like you were really there!

This book has a very strong and consistent main female character. The story itself was a little drab. But despite not entirely enjoying the story the character follows to reach the ending, I did like the background story of the dystopian future the world had become. All in all, I think this was a creative novel idea but not to turn into a book series.

I thought this was a unique twist to the ever changing vampire. I thought it was similar to a couple movies like Daybreakers (vampire cities, human blood donation forced or otherwise) and I am Legend (disease, the rabids). And actually that combination is what I described this book to be. I thought the characters were likeable and I went on to read the second book in the series, The Eternity Cure. The world Julie Kagawa built isn't something I would like to live in, but I visit it in book form whenever I feel like reading something about vampires.
