Synopsis

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

Pretentious, Adolescent Nonsense
January 2nd, 2016
I May be upsetting people when I say this, but this was literally one of the worst books I have ever read. Just because it's about two young lovers with cancer does not save it from some much needed criticism. I felt like the characters were almost talking down to me as a reader with all of the pretentious phrasing and choice of words. When a character such as Gus is written to be so flawless and "perfect", he becomes boring and predictable and it took me out of the story completely because no one is without flaws. Save yourself the time and read something else.

While I thought the book was well written, I was a little disappointed. I think because of all the movie hype(which I still haven't watched), it didn't live up to my expectations but was still a good read.

Terrific Book!!!
February 13th, 2015
Writing a review for a book that already has thousands of reviews seems unnecessary, but this book spoke to me. It spoke to me in the way that "An Imperial Affliction" spoke to Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters, which is to say it spoke profoundly. I'm sure I wasn't John Green's intended reader. I haven't read a YA book in 30 years and only did so on a recommendation. It surprised me to engage so intensely with a book again. I'm a fan and want to support something great.

Writing a review for a book that already has thousands of reviews seems unnecessary (and this is the 1st review I've written on Amazon), but this book spoke to me. I haven't read a YA book in 30 years and only did so on a recommendation. It surprised me to engage so intensely with a book again. So I guess I'm writing this, not because it needs to be said, but because I'm a fan and want to support something really great.

A refreshing realist romance
January 3rd, 2015
I, like many other young person in love with romance, enjoy overtly romantic gestures and beautifully written words. However, sometimes I feel like the true love is lost, buried within all of the "Prince charming" actions. This novel is refreshing because it shows the raw and rather realist side of love. Hazel and Augustus aren't overtly physical or verbal about their love and yet it is as tangible as the ground you stand on. Their love story was a beautiful and heart wrenching story, one that had me in tears and laughter. The characters became my friends, people I felt I truly knew and understood. I could foreshadow how some characters could respond the way you know your how your friends will respond to something before you say it. The depth given to these characters was remarkable. It was a pleasure to read !

Emotional Read
December 22nd, 2014
I can't believe that no one has reviewed this book yet!! It's an amazing read and the moment you start reading the first chapter or two, you are hooked! Another thing is that you're immediately latched onto the characters and when you get to the end, you completely breakdown crying your head off! I would definitely recommend this book to most readers as well as the movie. In the movie, almost everything is exactly like the book, only with very minor skipped parts. The director/producer did a great job on it! Most of the time, people would say that reading it first is better rater than watching it first but I think that you can go either way; like I said, the movie is so similar that it wouldn't even matter!

Heartbreaking and Beautiful
November 6th, 2014
This book is my favourite of Green's novels - the realistic portrayal of illness (without devolving into sentimental sick lit) and its effects creates strong characters. Hazel and Gus's love story is refreshing because it is complicated, messy, and heartfelt. Even though this book is sad (you will cry!), Hazel and Gus are funny enough to bring levity. Probably my favourite character is Van Houten - he is terrible and I love how he is the author proxy for John Green in a parallel universe. Read this book, cry, and live a better life. DFTBA!

A moving story
October 28th, 2014
This book, though classified a teen novel, can be read and enjoyed by adults too. Green writes evocatively and movingly of life and death -ir more specifically, of living while dying. The characters are well-drawn and believable, and the plit moves along compellingly with a few unexpected twists.

September 14th, 2014
This is my first John Green novel and I have to say it was every bit as good as people said. I usually don't read romance, but I don't mind it being an important element in the fantasy novels I usually pick up. This novel was just so thought provoking and genuine. I didn't feel like I was reading a teen drama. I definitely recommend it :)

I am usually a sucker for a tear jerker. But is it really possible that Hazel, Gus and Isaac are just that smart and articulate? I think that Anne Frank really was an exception. But I guess the book wouldn't have deserved the 3 stars I gave it if the protagonists weren't so articulate.

August 2nd, 2014
This book had been hyped up a lot around me by my younger sister and her friends. Then it became a movie. So I thought I would invest some of my time into it and read. Read I did. And I kept thinking to myself. This book is a scrapbook of other writing and the author showing his prowess by using words that are usually swept under the rug by people with no understanding of the world. Although this book did have some memories I could relate to having had someone die from cancer and leave a scar upon my life which I lovingly recall I cannot tell someone I enjoyed this book. Nor will I suggest to anyone to read it.
