The Count of Monte Cristo is an adventure novel written by famous French author Alexandre Dumas. It begins in the times of so called Hundred Days of Napoleon and goes through the reign of Lois-Philippe of France. The story is about the imprisoned man, who escapes from jail and is willing to avenge people who imprisoned him. The author touches upon the themes of hope, justice, vengeance, mercy and forgiveness, loyalty, betrayal and selfishness. They are revealed throughout the story as the characters slowly understand their true nature. The book is considered to be classic nowadays and includes history as a major element.
