Must read

After reading the summoner I could not get my hands on this book fast enough. Once I started reading it was impossible to put down! Hoping the third book will be just as intriguing.

A waste of candle marks

Even less creative than the previous book. Characters too characterless to care about, writing style too dull for words. I just don't get what people like about this author. I'll not be buying any more.

Awesome book and a great end to the first. Hopefully the next keeps up with the great story being told.

Amazing! From page one I was hooked, again like The Summoner, this book is a great change from the normal magic fantasy novels, and I can't wait to sit and read Dark Haven :)

Am excellent sequel to The Summoner. It ties up some loose ends and develops some things for the following books. The are, unfortunately, a number of typos. The best was, in the context of riposte on being "undead" and immortal, "immorality has its advantages". Look for it! :)

Plot marred by poor writing
June 1st, 2013
The world building and plot here are not bad, if a bit predictable. Unfortunately, Martin's prose is wooden and often breaks the epic atmosphere. The narrative pacing is also poor. More than once the climax of a major plot conflict comes and goes too quickly to be satisfying after such a long build up. Martin's characters barely escape being flat stock types. The fact that I finished the book is testament to the decent plot--and the money I had spent on it.

Characters are strongly portrayed. It would be nice to see this series on the Big Screen.
