Synopsis

Murder, mayhem and magic…

Locked in a coffin-like darkness, there is nothing to distract me from my memories of killing Reyad. He deserved to die-but according to the law, so do I. Here in Ixia, the punishment for murder is death. And now I wait for the hangman's noose.

But the same law that condemns me may also save me. Ixia's food taster-chosen to ensure that the Commander's food is not poisoned-has died. And by law, the next prisoner who is scheduled to be executed-me-must be offered the position.

    Beautiful Poison

I liked this book! The idea was very unique and fans of the Throne of Glass and Game of Thrones will really enjoy this mythically superb novel. The characters are lots of fun to read about. Yelena is a typically headstrong heroine, Valek and Ambrose are intriguing, while Ari and Janco are the comedic relief we need (much like a set of Weasley twins). There are plenty of books set in a historic fantasy world, but none to my knowledge that include a character whose job it is to be a food taster. Well done Maria V. Snyder!

Poison study was a wonderful story. It was fast paced, intriguing and had a heroine who I genuinely enjoyed. I also enjoyed how the heroine wasn't some innocent girl and that she lived in the gray area rather than black or white. Highly recommended.

I was rather anxious before I started reading this book. I had never read one of Maria V Snyders books before so I didn't know what to expect. However after the first chapter I was hooked! I honestly couldn't put the book down and finished it within the same day. It has just the right combination of romance, fantasy and action to keep people entertained. The whole series also has lots of plot twists, some of which I guessed but many that I didn't! I would definitely recommend this book, and indeed all of Snyder's series, especially the touch of power series and this series.
