Synopsis

No connections. Play it safe. These were the rules Ivey lived her life by.

Until she hit Mustang, Colorado, a perfectly imperfect town where the citizens were welcoming and one of them included the tall, beautiful, macho man rancher cowboy, Grayson Cody.

On the run for a decade, Ivey knew she was supposed to play it safe. But she was tired of being on the run. She wanted a normal. She wanted real. She wanted a home.

And she wanted Grayson Cody.

And Grayson Cody wanted Ivey.

No one who looked at them couldn’t see they belonged together. There was one man in this world for Ivey and one woman in this world for Grayson Cody.

So they fell in love.

But just as quickly as they fell together, they were betrayed and torn apart. Separated for years, Ivey was certain her life would not include her rancher cowboy. Until the town of Mustang reached out to her when Gray was in trouble. Even though she thought he broke her heart, she charged in to help. Then Gray and Ivey discovered they were betrayed and, not only that, Gray had an enemy who would stop at nothing to defeat him.

love the author, don't love the long time gap

I am a fan of most of Kristen Ashley's work (I'm still working my through everything though). This book does not disappoint, but I personally don't love stories with a huge gap of time between when our characters meet and fall in love to when they get their second chance. It kind of puts a pall on the whole thing for me, so even if/when you get the happy ending, it's very bittersweet.

This book was my Christmas day guilty pleasure :) I've only read a couple of Kristen's books so far and loved them all - this one did not disappoint me :) I'm a sucker for second chance love stories and this is certainly that and more. Grey is a sexy hot alpha male man of few words but when he talks you sit up and listen. Ivey and her brother Casey are hustlers, it's how they make a living. They arrive in the town of Mustang and stay a bit longer than they planned after Casey 'falls in love' with a local girl. Ivey meets Grey and after a cute 'courtship' they fall in love. For the first time in her life she isn't going to play it safe. She gives her heart to him and settles into a life she had never imagined she could have. When Casey shows up one night and tells her they have to leave town she is furious, she doesn't want to leave Grey and her new life but he convinces her to go. There is a lot of devious people in this story who set this love story into a seven year tale. I really enjoyed this :)

Yes, I was surprised it was the first book in a new series also. I discovered this after reading the whole book and glancing through the other series Ashley has out there. There it was, right under Colorado Mountains, Colorado Plains with this listed as the first book. I loved it. It made sense. Gray is a winner and Ivey pretty darn fine also. Why the half star? I had a bit of initial trouble getting used to biker talk coming out of a cowboy's mouth....Gettin' me Babe? Gray is the local very hot, in demand stud with principles. Ivey, well Ivey has no past or future that she wants to think about just this place and right now. She knows her way around a pool cue and knows how to work it. Later in the story we find she has many assets of note. Ivey's sweetness and naivety bring her into your heart. Gray's tough side is just what she needs and his positive outlook on life opens her world. The Hawt scenes are hot. The characters are first rate. The book is well thought out but a bit predictable now and then. Yet another Ashley series I will be following.
