Self-preservation fuels Cara's search for the gem known as Nefertiti's Heart. In a society where everyone wears a mask to hide their true intent, she needs to figure out who to trust, before she sacrifices her own heart and life.

Although I knew who the real killer was the story still captivated me. I enjoyed the relationship which developed and the only issue I had was the relevance of the old friendship. It never really flourished.

Adventure and Romance in a Steampunk World

I loved the strong heroine who escaped a horrible situation as a teen and returns to deal with the estate of a father who had had sold her. I liked the slow romance development with the shady lord who maybe should not be trusted. Throw in the serial murders, artefacts and a steampunk world and it added up to be a great read.

This book was a joy to read. Well-crrafted witb a fascinating story line, I could not put it down. I am eagerly anticipating the rest of the series and intend to read as much of the author's work as I can. I particularly enjoyed the correct grammar and spelling - and no, I am not a teacher!

Different and a bit saucy. The main character is a strong person and shows tremendous resilience. I really like the time period that the story is set in.
