Considered one of the most significant American novels of the twentieth century, Willa Cather’s My Antonia tells the tale of the spirited daughter of a Bohemian immigrant family planning to farm on the untamed land of the newly settled plains of the North American continent. Antonia’s childhood friend, Jim Burden, pens her life story through romantic eyes, thrusting us into an exhilarating narrative ripe with pioneer spirit and discovery.

My Antonia

A rural tale about youth, love, and friendship in Nebraska. A eulogy about a Bohemian girl and family very much like the TV series of The Waltons. The story sets perspectives about life a century or more back before the wars in the 20th century made inroads on young male lives and after the American Civil strife. The foundations of America' rise to world dominance were founded as per this chronicle within the metaphor of what human decency might still be about.

A good read. Wonderfully descriptive written in the first person. A lawyer looks back at his life growing up in the prairie, dirt poor but with a good brain. Antonia makes her mark and remains the great love of his life.
