Synopsis

For the first time, all five novels in the epic fantasy series that inspired HBO’s Game of Thrones are together in one eBook bundle. An immersive entertainment experience unlike any other, A Song of Ice and Fire has earned George R. R. Martin—dubbed “the American Tolkien” by Time magazine—international acclaim and millions of loyal readers. Now this bundle collects the entire monumental cycle in the most convenient format available:

A GAME OF THRONES
A CLASH OF KINGS
A STORM OF SWORDS
A FEAST FOR CROWS
A DANCE WITH DRAGONS

“One of the best series in the history of fantasy.”—Los Angeles Times

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King’s Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert’s name. There his family dwells in peace and comfort: his proud wife, Catelyn; his sons Robb, Brandon, and Rickon; his daughters Sansa and Arya; and his bastard son, Jon Snow. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse—unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season.

Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, the cruel, vainglorious Prince Joffrey, and the queen’s brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannister—the first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind. All are heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms.

Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothraki—whose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to him: his beautiful yet innocent sister, Daenerys.

“Long live George Martin . . . a literary dervish, enthralled by complicated characters and vivid language, and bursting with the wild vision of the very best tale tellers.”—The New York Times

Why not buy the way less expensive version? It looks the same to me, and costs only €27,99. Also available on Kobo (for me via this link: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/ebook/a-game-of-thrones-the-story-continues-books-1-5-a-game-of-thrones-a-clash-of-kings-a-storm-of-swords-a-feast-for-crows-a-dance-with-dragons-a-song-of-ice-and-fire.

One big book

I wish they split this up into 5, rather than 1 massive book. But besides that GoT is such a good series, well worth the money.

Confusing
April 20th, 2015
I bought this bundle and just recently bought a physical copy of a dance with dragons. Why are the chapters different from each other? One chapter will have a characters name on it in the Ebook, and it won't be in the physical book. An example without spoilers Having Eddard Stark in the Ebook, but not having him pop up in the physical book.

Epic Excellence
February 15th, 2015
This story starts coming at you quick, and just keeps coming. I could spend days writing about the story. But apparently there is a 1500 character limit. I am a more recent convert to GoT, becoming aware mostly from watching the excellent HBO series of the same name. At long last, I finally finished reading the first five books. Many feel Frank Herbert Dune saga is so great in part for the political intrigue, plotting, betrayal, and fantasic story building. For me this is like that sorta kinda, but oh so much better. A few words about the books: Book 1... builds characters, and does a great job showing you what the series will stand on. The betrayal, the shock, everything is there in A Game of Thrones. I find most interesting how in this first book how quite plausible events, though seemingly small perhaps, could translate into so many also plausible far reaching consequences. Most of the book is more just fantasy medieval rather than high fantasy. Book 3 ... probably the best book in the series. I was literally exhausted from reading all the events in the final 30 chapters. So much happens in this book. At the same time, it may have been too much. This could easily have been 2 books as is. Books 4 and 5: onve you realize fully that these two books start out at the same timeline. Book 5 eventually joins to the end of book 4 timeline wise, and then continues on. These 2 books are interesting, but less so than book 3. Where are the next 2 books????

When he gets bored, he just kills everyone
January 25th, 2015
The author has created to many characters and to many story lines. He has created some great characters but gets bored with them then either kills them off or stops writing about them for chapters or books. Doesn't know where to go with a story line so he just drops it. Seems to write himself into a box , doesn't know where he is going so he just kills everyone one, or just drops it and creates a new character and story line. Characters or story lines you want to care about are left hanging. Thank god he has other writers helping him on the TV series. Might have been better have had several books within his world instead. Kept hoping it would get better, didn't. Character and storyline I really loved and wanted resolved got cheap ending (Kill them off) or just disappeared (the Others) Painful read.

After being pestered by multiple people to read this series, I'd have to say I'm more obsessed with it than they are! George R. R. Martin's writing is so well done, and so detailed that I find myself disappearing into the land of Westeros for hours. Just spectacular!

A fine piece of work so far (it's not finished) and 100% addictive. The writing is solid and effective much of the time and the world is fascinating and convincing. The characters are complex and engrossing, as are the situations they find themselves in. You become pretty attached to them all, with all their faults. The downside is that it makes the brutal fate some of them meet really tough to take. For the most part the obligatory epic (semi-archaic) language works well--though you need to be willing to forgive a bit here and there--and occasionally yields some actual rewards. There are stylistic tics that can be grating--the occasional preoccupation with the female characters' breasts and nipples for example can be tiresome. Expect plenty of seaminess and luridness to go with your swash and buckle. It's not Homer, but I for one can hardly wait for the next instalment.

As an over all read I love this series!!! It has everything I look for in what I like to read. My favorite part about it is that Mr. Martin changes the rules of writing to the point where you finish some chapters and have to set it down for a day or so just to absorb what just happened and how it will now effect the rest of the realm and the other characters! On the edge of my seat the whole time looking forward to reading it again to see what new things pop up.

As an avid fan of the highly successful 'Game of Thrones' of which this series is based, I was desperate to give the books ago because of the whole 'original is always better' stance. I was not disappointed, this books are fabulously written, real page turners. Admittedly, the incest and heavy massacres raise a few eyebrows, but aoverall these books are a really good read!

Epic and Engrossing
January 4th, 2014
Martin weaves an epic yarn spanning both time and distance as the reader follows the stories of opposing families fighting for rule. Characters are true to real life, as is the story: some are heroic, and some dastardly, and all are prone to making mistakes. Indeed, from early on it becomes apparent that all are mortal as well. Highly recommended, can't wait for the next book in the series!

I enjoyed the series very much. There are so many characters and individual stories around them that it keeps you guessing. It is not a series for young teens as some of the sex scenes are quite detailed. Unlike his earlier works, the author seems to have given in to the pressure of 'sex sells'.

November 27th, 2013
The writing style is some of the best I've read. I love the way characters' dialogue is interwoven with their contradicting thoughts. This adds additional layers of depth and humor to their personalities. As a female reader I found the continuous rape, pillage and plunder to be a bit overwhelming and by the time I arrived at A Dance With Dragons I was thoroughly desensitized to every variety of torture and degradation that was being served. In Book 5 the remaining characters are all trudging around with missing limbs, gaping holes where eyes and noses once were, corpses are dangling and rotting at every turn. I found myself wondering how the remaining maimed citizens, with their villages burned to the ground, could possibly still submit the taxes that were supposedly funding all the wars. Although the sharp caustic wit and sarcasm suit Tyrion, and even Cersei, when too many other characters like Jaime and Littlefinger and a few blokes from across the sea begin to all talk with the same sarcastic voice, the effect becomes diluted. The first 3 books are well paced, beginning slow but ending in a crescendo of exciting action. But I was surprised with the painfully slow pace of Book 5 - A Dance With Dragons. Up until the final few chapters, the dragons remain chained, earth bound, and mostly ignored which is a disappointment, given the book's title. Although there remains (hopefully) 2 books to come, I still expected at least a portion of the story threads to begin forming some semblance of a cohesive whole, especially in light of the enormous gap of time between book releases. It's a bit bold of the publishing company and George Martin to expect fans and readers to maintain interest and loyalty while year upon year passes while the author takes on numerous other projects that are given priority over this unfinished series. For the moment I'm still hanging on but as each additional year passes, my fingers are beginning to lose their grip on the ciff.

Superb books. Flawed characters, fascinating plot lines, great action. And very realistic. The author makes you feel what the characters are feeling and see what they're seeing. He also makes great use of factual historical parallels. Polarizing too. So many characters for you to love or hate. Read these books. The show is good but it can only do so much justice to these books.
