Synopsis

Emily Miller knew her life was about to change forever the day her mother said, "I'm pregnant." She'd hear those words again and again--and with every pregnancy Emily's father changed from bad to worse. For years the Miller family suffered through his rages. It took a terrible loss for the family to regroup, and all the love Emily can muster to save her siblings.

Bartlett's powerful short story, "Abused: A Daughter’s Story," grabs hold immediately and doesn't let go. This heart-tugger's hero, Emily, displays amazing resilience and strength. I know I'll remember this story for a long, long time.
--Julie Hyzy, Barry- and Anthony-award winning author of the White House Chef and Manor House Mysteries

Abused: a daughters story.
June 9th, 2014
Very predictable, nothing new about abuse . This type of abuser is so common i myself had a father that drank and physically assaulted my mother. I despised him. My mother left him and 2 days later he commited suucide. He left us 4 children aged eighteen twelve six and four. I should write my own story for people to read .

Abused a daughters story.

This has attempted to address a difficult subject matter through the eyes of a child. Whilst the author is to be congratulated for the efforts made in lifting the topic into a fictional setting, the book leaves you feeling unfulfilled in terms of the characters... It reads as though chunks have been omitted from the plot, and this in turn has left the narrative predictable, with no surprises awaiting. This was a missed opportunity somewhat to explore the true depth of impact that domestic violence has on a family, and the fathers reactive behaviour could have also been touched on.

Ok. A bit too short, you don't really connect to the characters in the story
