--Books and Movie Reviews, Roberto Mattos

The #1 Bestseller!

From #1 Bestselling author Morgan Rice comes the debut of a dazzling new fantasy series. A QUEST OF HEROES (BOOK #1 IN THE SORCERER’S RING) revolves around the epic coming of age story of one special boy, a 14 year old from a small village on the outskirts of the Kingdom of the Ring. The youngest of four, the least favorite of his father, hated by his brothers, Thorgrin senses he is different from the others. He dreams of becoming a great warrior, of joining the King’s men and protecting the Ring from the hordes of creatures on the other side of the Canyon. When he comes of age and is forbidden by his father to try out for the King’s Legion, he refuses to take no for an answer: he journeys out on his own, determined to force his way into King’s Court and be taken seriously.

But King’s Court is rife with its own family dramas, power struggles, ambitions, jealousy, violence and betrayal. King MacGil must choose an heir from amongst his children, and the ancient Dynasty Sword, the source of all their power, still sits untouched, waiting for the chosen one to arrive. Thorgrin arrives as an outsider and battles to be accepted, and to join the King’s Legion.

Thorgrin comes to learn he has mysterious powers he does not understand, that he has a special gift, and a special destiny. Against all odds he falls in love with the king’s daughter, and as their forbidden relationship blossoms, he discovers he has powerful rivals. As he struggles to make sense of his powers, the king’s sorcerer takes him under his wing and tells him of a mother he never knew, in a land far away, beyond the Canyon, beyond even the land of the Dragons.

Before Thorgrin can venture out and become the warrior he yearns to be, he must complete his training. But this may be cut short, as he finds himself propelled into the center of royal plots and counterplots, ones that may threaten his love and bring him down—and the entire kingdom with him.

With its sophisticated world-building and characterization, A QUEST OF HEROES is an epic tale of friends and lovers, of rivals and suitors, of knights and dragons, of intrigues and political machinations, of coming of age, of broken hearts, of deception, ambition and betrayal. It is a tale of honor and courage, of fate and destiny, of sorcery. It is a fantasy that brings us into a world we will never forget, and which will appeal to all ages and genders. It is 82,000 words.

Books #3--#17 in the series are now also available!

Fantastic tale of fantasy!
July 6th, 2015
This book is, I believe meant for a younger audience but as an adult I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a great story that takes me back to the stories of Dragonlance or Tolkien. The story moves along at a good pace with likeable characters and a good plot. I'm very much looking forward to reading the rest of this series and I'm glad to have discovered a new (to me) author in the process. If you like stories of knights and royal courts and adventure, then I highly recommend this book!

Excellent book, much better than what I expected!
July 3rd, 2015
I honestly did not know what to expect with this book when I downloaded it. Many of the reviews on GoodReads said that the book was boring or that the characters seemed flat. I guess that my low expectations allowed this book to truly defy them. I truly enjoyed this book from start to finish and did not want it to end. Morgan Rice is a fantastic author and her attention to detail is amazing. I honestly felt like I was being transported into the book's fantasy world in most of the scenes. Thor's home is an bright, richly imagined place with some very colourful characters. I've already recommended the book to several friends and I hope they enjoy it as much as I did. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Great series a must for readers
January 4th, 2015
Wow, Morgan Rice sure can write and tell a good story. I am not a minor or young reader but I love the series and would be perfect for young adult to adult reader. This whole series "The Sorcerer's Ring" is one of the best fantasy/fiction series I have ever read. And if you like Magic, Romance, friendship and fighting through adversity you have found a great series. I would even say that "The Sorcerer's Ring" series makes other books seem dull and slow. I am a fantasy book fanatic and it is the main type of book series I stick with. I don't write many reviews, but Morgan Rice's "The Sorcerer's Ring" series has made me want to write reviews. The character Thor and the other characters draw you into their situations and events. There is struggle, battle, justice, love, life, caring, magic and so much more In the whole book series. I could go on but I don't want to give away the books story and events. If you read books then buy the series and Morgan Rice's other book, you will love them as much as I do. The books are a mush for any Fantasy reader and even for those who want some romance and some action. The best book, author and series ever. Get the books and enjoy. Thanks for reading this review. Seems a bit familiar
August 22nd, 2014
A lot of the names and storyline seems familiar from bits of other books. The sword that no-one can lift, Gwendolyn, etc... It finishes on a bit of a cliffhanger though so I will need to read the next part to really make-up my mind. It is a pleasant story and grand for something light to read through.

You won't want it to finish
June 29th, 2014
Written with the kind of skill and in a manner which will see a multitude of fan categories wanting dearly for the next book to begin. Morgan Rice has put the story together in such a way that it'll appeal to teen fiction readers, YA sci-fi & fantasy, and adult sci-fi & fantasy readers. With enough detail for the practiced veteran to be an interested follower and yet also not too much detail that the saga will lose the less patient younger readers who don't want to become entrapped in a quagmire of words and context such that it takes a whole book to set a scene, this first instalment has created the foundation well enough to create a broad spectrum of followers that'll eagerly await each next chapter. Do yourself a favour and read this opening look at the burgeoning life of young Tor and the many other protagonists you'll come to know and love in the first saga by Morgan Rice that more closely epitomises the stories we come to expect for the richness of the fantasy genre.

Good story, but full of errors
April 27th, 2014
The story is smooth flowing and interesting for fantasy book lovers. But the amount of grammatical errors present in the book makes it hard to believe that a book of this quality could be published. Seems to lack proof-read before publication. Even names of characters could be mis-spelt.

Not Thrilled, Yet…
April 17th, 2014
The bad guys are split between Thing 1 and Thing 2. Thing 1 being the classic bully and Thing 2 being the classic villain. I feel as if the author could do with a bit more social behavioral understanding. The characters aren't really bad, but nothing special. It's just that nothing stands out as special the entire time I read the book. It just feels like a CliffNotes version of a stronger author's writing. Some of the authors that she has been compared to made me wince. It's a decent story, just not amazing. With how many similar variants there are to this plot, I would not spend money on the series. It just has no dirt under the nails. I have a lot of favorite female authors, but I do not believe that the fantasy genre is this ones cup of tea. If more become freely available I would give this series another shot.

Entertaining but limited
September 11th, 2013
Interesting story told with brevity, sometimes so much so that it reads like a summary of a longer story. Standard stock fantasy characters - downtrodden hero, evil ambitious prince, beautiful princess etc. Amusing but certainly nothing new here. Felt very short, finished in a few hours, so perhaps not the best value for money. Most telling review I can give it is that I'm undecided whether I'll be bothering to buy the sequel.

Disappointing
February 24th, 2013
This book was not worth the $2.99 I paid for it. It was in serious need of a editor. Syntax and spelling were horrible and words used incorrectly abounded. The character development was weak, the dialog was juvenile. I am angered that this book was compared to writers who are actually good. False advertising in the worst way!!!
