Ever since I read Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, I have been drawn to every adaptation I could get my hands on (and now have quite a collection). I am also an identical twin who has yet to find a book that captures the connection that is found between twins of this nature done correctly. Needless to say, I had very high expectations and was ready to be disappointed. I was blown away not only with the story lines but also the character development found in this book (as well as the second instalment). There is no way to recreate the poignant tale of one man's (the monster) journey to find love, connection, acceptance, and meaning of creation; such a story cannot be told any better. However, this book gives you a glimpse into what may have happened in Dr. Frankenstein's life to bring him to his future found in Mary Shelley's book. At the same time, he was able to show readers what the connection between twins is really like (the rivalry, the two halves of one whole, the need to stand tall and shine in your own way that is different from your twin, and the drive to do anything you can to save the one person who you can't live without because it would change what it is to be you).
