Synopsis

The Hound of the Baskervilles is the third of four crime novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle featuring the detective Sherlock Holmes. Sir Charles Baskerville, a baronet, is found lying dead among yew trees in the grounds of his country house, Baskerville Hall. The cause of death is ascribed to a heart attack. Fearing for the safety of Sir Charles's nephew and only known heir, Henry Baskerville—who was coming to London from Canada to claim his inheritance—Dr James Mortimer travels from Devon to London, and appeals for help to Sherlock Holmes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hound_of_the_Baskervilles

This mystery novel holds up over a 100 years later
November 17th, 2014
The Hound of the Baskervilles is a vibrant, engaging book which ought to be a solid entertainment for readers. Its mystery isn’t predicated on the overuse of (often arbitrary) plot twists. Instead, it focuses on character and mood to convey a tale which is engaging both intellectually and emotionally.

Good old detective work

In the era of the internet and wireless communications, tablet computers and smart phones it is quite an escape to be reminded how things used to be and how deductive reasoning was applied in good old detective work.

First full length novel of Sherlock Holmes that I've read - short stories from the adventures and memoirs were good, but the longer form was better IMO.

This is the first time that I have read Conan Doyle and I found it an enjoyable and well-paced book. Without a doubt I shall read more of his work in the future.
