Synopsis

People express and receive love in different ways. Dr. Gary Chapman identifies these as the five languages of love: quality time, words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service and physical touch. If you express love toward others in a way they don't understand, they will not realize you've expressed your love at all. The problem is that you're speaking different languages! Abridged version of the New York Times bestselling title.

Clarity is understanding

This book helped me to understand my love language and my significant other's. I would suggest each person read this book. So in any relationship, whether business, platonic, or relational their know if they're getting fed or drained from that relationship.

Simple concept but extremely useful

The book starts out by presuming the reader is married and straight. I am a gay man and I'm not married but just in the early stages of a relationship. Until today I thought my boyfriend and I might be incompatible, but now I can see that we speak different love languages (express and receive love differently). I'm excited to discuss this with him and learn more about each other's preferred method of receiving love. This is the very much shortened version of the full book but it seems to outline the concepts well. It took me about an hour to read (and I don't read very fast!) so I don't know if you'd call it value for money but if it helps your relationship it's a very small price to pay.
