Synopsis

An essay by film historian John DiLeo about the film The Furies (1950) directed by Anthony Mann and starring Barbara Stanwyck and Walter Huston. Excerpted from John DiLeos Screen Savers II: My Grab Bag of Classic Movies, The Furies (1950): Mann of the West. Noted for its volatility, the suddenness of its violence, and its unmistakable strain of incest, The Furies is quite a show. Its a peak picture for most of its contributors, notably the best of Barbara Stanwycks eleven westerns (not to mention her television series The Big Valley).
