When Stacey Shields learns the man who murdered her parents twelve years earlier wants the forgiving execution, she must gather up the courage to grant the request. Under this new process, murderer Jim Bird would be transformed into a harmless piece of flesh with an empathic link to her. Under such conditions, forgiving should not be taken lightly.

There are laws protecting the transformed and there are people--the family of victims of violent crime--who break those laws. The forgiving execution is controversial. Stacey's best friend, Dee, seems to believe forgiving is a commitment like any other.

Who will Stacey side with? Can she forgive the man who murdered her parents?
