The story of a detective from Staffordshire and a young recruit from Wales. Together, they try to catch whoever is stealing fish from a fishery in Staffordshire and selling them to another fishery in Warwickshire.

Their quest is not as easy as it seems and they are hindered by their miserable governor, who does not take the case seriously. Originally from London the governor is figure of fun to the lads down the station and they are running a sweepstake to see who can make him laugh.

Unlike most policeman, the main character, Detective sergeant Fred Tench doesn't have attitude because he doesn't need it. Think of Inspector Frost with a fishing rod and a smile and you will be heading in the right direction.
