Synopsis

In this new short story from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Child, available exclusively as an eBook, a young Jack Reacher knows how to finish a fight so it stays finished. He knows how to get the job done so it stays done. And, in one of his earliest challenges, he knows that his analytical brain is just as important as his impressive brawn.

Okinawa, 1974. Even at thirteen, Jack Reacher knows how to outwit and overpower anyone who stands in his way. And as the new kid in town, that’s pretty much everyone. His family has come to the Pacific with his father, who’s preparing for a top-secret Marine Corps operation. After receiving a rude welcome from the local military brats, Reacher and his older brother, Joe, intend to teach them a lesson they won’t forget. But it’s soon clear that there’s more at stake than pride. When his family’s future appears to come crumbling down, it’s the youngest Reacher who rises to the occasion with all the decisive cunning and bravura that will one day be his deadly trademark.

Second Son also includes a thrilling excerpt from Lee Child’s forthcoming novel, The Affair.

A good little tale

In this story we get to see a young Reacher on an army base working through a problem that, of course, only he can solve. Oh sure its a little far fetched but are not most action stories? Fans of the series will enjoy a look at their hero in his youth. Definitely worth a read.

Reacher as a Teenager.

I enjoyed this short story as much as I enjoy Child's other Reacher novels. To understand how Reacher evolved was a hoot. He understood people even at 13yrs old. I fact, I got a few chuckles w/ this story as well as a few laugh out loud noises even if I was reading alone. I especially enjoyed the last few chapters. I highly recommend this short story, especially to all commuters.

Just ok

Nothing really spectacular about this book. Its a short story an easy read and not much in the way of edge of your seat action. If you're sitting at an appointment for an hour and want something to read this could be it.

Reacher's youth is a preview of the man he becomes. Really good a little predictable and too short.

An excellent look at some of Reacher's formative experiences, as well as a look at his parents, and Joe in his youth. Really enjoyed the description of off-base housing, and the treatment of new kids. It Turns out Reacher was born that way.

Second Son : A Jack Reacher Story

Lee Child does it again. It's very hard to get a new reader to shell out a lot of money for a book they know little about with a character they know nothing about. The result? Wean them in. Wet the whistle. Get them interested and leave off in a place that leaves you with "What? Don't stop now!" No problem. Lee let's you know how to continue where you left off. And another fan is born. Jack Reacher is a character with a most definite and extremely broad fan base. Welcome.

Second son: a Jack Reacher Story

Absolutely ridiculous. The plot COULD have been good but the writer really dropped the ball. It just was a huge "reach" to believe a 13 year old kid would or could advise the military and supply answers to solve the mystery. This is a classic FAIL for this writer! !!

I really enjoyed this short story. As my first introduction to the Jack Reacher novels, I must say I was impressed enough to purchase the first two novels in the Jack Reacher series. Lee Child has now become one of the many Authors, who's work, I enjoy reading.

It's a beautiful thing to read about one of my favorite fiction characters of the modern days as a young child. Finding his way in life and being as badass as always.
