Synopsis

QUESTION:  ARE THERE DIFFERENT REALITIES?  This short story explores the possibility of alternative realities.  An unfortunate loss, a desire to put things right, and a need to do something in the face of an insurmountable roadblock; these are the foundations of Elgin J. Dobbins’ short story entitled “Second Chance.”  It is a love story that shows the love of a father and husband for his family.  This story will steal your heart as the opening scene begins with a lose that many individuals cannot imagine.  A lose so horrific that to imagine such a thing is beyond the average person.  This story will send the reader through the whole gambit of emotional ranges.  The storyline opens with a family lose of tremendous proportions.  The institution of love is tested far beyond normal bounds and transcends the generations within the family tree.  The main character is Woodrow (Woody) Beach, and he is placed in a situation by which the pass and future generations of his family; as well as the present generation; depends on his ability to think on his feet, adjust to the changing situations, and keep a secret that if revealed; could mean failure and the lose of loved ones forever to a cruel fate that can never be overcome; and he only gets one shot at the winner’s circle.  The strange turn of events will let him insert himself into a circumstance that will allow him to correct the situation or to make it worse.  Initial confusion relents to a clear and concise plan that he executes with the confidence of a secret agent planted in the middle of an enemy’s camp.  His mental nimbleness allow him to do what it takes to save four generations of his family, without any of them being the wiser.  The story works on several levels and will keep the reader interested right through to the end of this most unusual story.  Brilliantly woven and written to hook the most seasoned reader, “Second Chance” is a gem of a story that will work the emotions of all who have the will to stick with it until the last line is read.  This is a multi layer story that is like a juggler keeping many balls going at once, and is a mental workout.
