Synopsis

To five-year-old Jack, Room is the entire world. It is where he was born and grew up; it's where he lives with his Ma as they learn and read and eat and sleep and play. At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits.

Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it is the prison where Old Nick has held her captive for seven years. Through determination, ingenuity, and fierce motherly love, Ma has created a life for Jack. But she knows it's not enough...not for her or for him. She devises a bold escape plan, one that relies on her young son's bravery and a lot of luck. What she does not realize is just how unprepared she is for the plan to actually work.

Told entirely in the language of the energetic, pragmatic five-year-old Jack, ROOM is a celebration of resilience and the limitless bond between parent and child, a brilliantly executed novel about what it means to journey from one world to another.

Interesting!

As other reviews have stated, it takes a bit to get used to the story being told in a child's voice, but that emphasizes how his growth was affected. Very good!!

This book was so good I had to read it twice! Telling it from the boys perspective can sometimes seem a bit annoying, but I could not imagine the book any other way! I loved it and could not put it down!

Boom...

Wow, what an unusual perspective. Loved that it was told in the well developed language of a five year old. In some ways this book is disturbing, in other ways intriguing, and most instances, delightfully hopeful. I will be seeking more of this author's work!

I thought this was a GREAT read! Loved the perspective of the book from Jack's view. You won't beable to help falling in love with Jack....and cheering him on as you read through their journey of life. Loved that it wasn't too graphic but you still could get a great feel for the circumstances of their situation and life.

It took a while to adapt to the writing style (in the perspective of a 5 year old), yet a captivating story. Highly recommend.

What a sad little story. Didn't think I was enjoying it, but I couldn't put it down. I thought the author did a grat job of narrating from a 5 year old's point of view.
