Synopsis

The year is 1588. Religious strife between Catholics and Huguenots has been ravaging the Kingdom of France for decades. When spring maneuvers take Philippe de Treffort, captain in the army of the Catholic League, to a remote village, he becomes mysteriously enthralled with Sandrine the local innkeeper’s daughter. From the moment he lays eyes on her, he feels irresistibly drawn to this beautiful headstrong child so different from the peasants among whom she lives. In a moment alone, she confesses that she too feels this strange attraction and dreams that he is her longed-for liberator from a miserable existence. His promise to take her away, however, must remain unfulfilled for the time being as the waves of war engulf their lives and fate conspires to keep them apart. Princess of the Blood is the epic struggle of a young woman who goes through fire and water to find her identity and gain freedom from the constraints of a cruel world so she can be united with the man she loves. Her path is strewn with the obstacles of superstition, fanaticism, and persecution. In the background of her personal struggle unfolds the colorful tapestry of a time of siege warfare, witch hunts, rigid social conventions, political intrigues, and assassinations that can only be overcome through the reign of a charismatic leader and a woman’s undaunted spirit.
