Synopsis

It is the greatest advance in American defense technology in decades—an attack submarine capable of incredible underwater speeds. There is only one problem: A key element of the prototype is missing—and the man who developed it is dead.

At the same time, ships have started vanishing mid-ocean, usually never to be found again, but when they are, sometimes bodies are found aboard…burned to a crisp. What is going on? And what does it have to do with an Italian submarine that vanished in 1943? Or did it?

It is up to NUMA director Dirk Pitt and his team, aided by a beautiful NCIS agent and by Pitt’s children, Dirk, Jr., and Summer, to go on a desperate international chase to find the truth. But what they discover is a much, much greater threat than even they imagined…

Poseidon's Arrow is a fast paced action adventure. The story flows at pace that keeps the reader interested. You do not want to put the book down. You have to know what will happen next or how does the hero get out of the tight spot.

Cusslers Poseidon's Arrow
August 13th, 2013
I have read and thoroughly enjoyed every book Clive Cussler has written, unfortunately, this would be the first book of his that has failed to provide me with reading pleasure from cover to cover. My enjoyment of his books stems from the fact, that unlike so many other authors, his novels do not follow a formulae as predictable as the sun rising in the morning, but, aside from the good triumphing over evil theme, Mr. Cusslers books manage fresh ideas and themes and somewhat believable scenarios to have his various characters puzzle through the difficulties and come through their ordeals in triumph. In the case of the Poseidon's Arrow, he has all of a sudden had his characters go deaf, dumb, blind and stupid together with the government failing to take the most basic steps to protect vital secrets and materials. I defy anybody reading this book, not to know that Mr Fowler is as crooked as the day is long from the first instance of inside knowledge being used to achieve evil goals and that it should have been obvious to anyone involved. Also, the complete lack of security on vital secret assets, despite them having already been stolen or compromised at least twice before is just way to much to accept. For the first time in my experience of reading Mr Cusslers books, I found myself getting aggravated over the stupidity of the "Good Guys" and their continual failure to follow the simplest of measures to ensure security of vital secrets. Unlike any other Cussler book I have read, this is the first one I have ever put down and walked away from because I was to annoyed to read anymore of it for awhile. Please Mr. Cussler, give me back my swashbuckling heroes that don't have to be hit over the head with a sledgehammer five or six times before they figure out something is wrong. Everybody, gets a little off their game every once in a while, I hope this is your one venture into poor writing and future books will once again shine in bringing reading pleasure to us all.
