There is no doubt that the Earth is warming up. The only question is: how much of it is part of nature's cycles, and how much is man-caused? But there are startling, counter-intuitive theories today, one of which suggests that global warming will actually cause a new ice age. Not only that, but an even newer hypothesis suggests the cold snap could hit very fast, once the trigger is pulled.

Key to the entire Instant Ice Age scenario is the science surrounding the Earth's Global Ocean Temperature Conveyor (GOTC). Decades of research have demonstrated that the world's oceans are linked by an enormous ribbon of water, larger than several Amazon Rivers. The water trapped in this phenomenon starts out cold and Arctic in the Northern Pacific Ocean, and circulates along southern Asia, around the lower tip of Africa, and up the Atlantic. It picks up warmth until it maxes out in the Gulf of Mexico. A well-known phenomenon, it causes palm-like plants to grow along the coast of Ireland. It comes to a crashing stop among the ice bergs of the North Atlantic, sinks down, and returns underneath the same path by which it came. The whole cycle takes three years, and holds the key to Earth's future. Global warming and melting ice caps are the gun--when will the trigger be pulled?
