Life Of Caring: 16 Newfoundland Nurses Tell Their Stories
Average rating
4 / 5
Fine narrative
March 28th, 2014
Captures the essence of the life of hospital and district nurses in pre-Confederation Newfoundland. The narrative appears lightly edited, making the voices of these women genuine. Heavy emphasis on their training experiences a bit repetitive but allows a fuller picture of what their training was like and the primitive, difficult conditions under which they laboured. The stories of Jennie Warham's wartime experience in Africa and of others who worked outside Newfoundland gave a glimpse of the breadth of the experience of these women. It is a fine set of stories that bring out the best of Newfoundland oral history telling
