Synopsis

This is a fiction short story about a family that escaped Hong Kong Island by walking out, after the Japanese occupation in 1941. They gave up their home and all possessions except what they could carry. After they crossed over to the mainland, they continued to walk at night and rest during the day, heading into the interior, far from the Japanese occupiers. One night, they were attacked by robbers who took what little they had. Kind farmers gave them a little food along the way, until they reached a farmer who was a family friend. The story tells what happened to the girl after the War.
