A most enjoyable and informative read. Harry Mount provides an excellent insight into the development of England and its landscapes, both rural and urban. The historical information is provided in an entertaining fashion tying coherently together much of the history taught at school. The author's views are very clearly spelt out - a refreshing change to the more common 'we must avoid giving any offence' approach too often to be found in books of this nature. You may not agree with him but you cannot help but understand his view. Highly recommended.
