I witnessed a series of tragedies with homeowners who needed to rebuild their homes after the 2005 hurricane. Some of these people were cheated out of their grant and insurance money due to the fact that they could not knowledgeably deal with the contractor. This gave me the idea for this Handbook. Their ignorance about their home made them easy prey. If they had a copy of this Handbook they would have been much better prepared to deal on a more even basis with their contractor. The book has four parts; Part 1, stresses the importance of maintaining the records associated with the purchase. Part 2, provides plans and ideas for utility conservation—saving on costs of operation. Part 3, includes charts and information on caring for the exterior of your house and property. Part 4, provides methods on caring for the interior of your house. Regardless of where you live, your home will need repair. This Handbook provides for unplanned repairs and periodic maintenance tasks.
