Nina LaCour beautifully captures protagonist's, Caitlin, struggle to return to normal life after her best friend, Ingrid, commits suicide. LaCour unfolds the contents of Ingrid's journal, and her descent into depression thoughtfully to the audience, and in a way that never seems gimmicky, or rushed. It is well-balanced as Caitlin comes to terms with how her friend felt in her final days. One of the entries in Ingrid's diary literally moved me to tears. It is a powerful book about friendship, coming of age, and at times, an unwavering look into the realities of depression.
