Synopsis

'It's just to say that no-one has come to pick Nathan up from school, and we were wondering if there was a problem of some kind?'

As Mark Douglas photographs a pod of whales stranded in the waters off Edinburgh's Portobello Beach, he is called by his son's school: his wife, Lauren, hasn't turned up to collect their son. Calm at first, Mark collects Nathan and takes him home but as the hours slowly crawl by he increasingly starts to worry.

With brilliantly controlled reveals, we learn some of the painful secrets of the couple's shared past, not least that it isn't the first time Lauren has disappeared. And as Mark struggles to care for his son and shield him from the truth of what's going on, the police seem dangerously short of leads. That is, until a shocking discovery...

Not bad once you get into it but you know halfway through what the outcome will be, not one that will stick in your memory

Gone Again.

This writer is very good. He produces a storyline which is always unexpected and interesting. This story really gets to you. You feel yourself relating with the main character who goes through hell trying to convince the police his wife is missing and feel as frustrated as he does with the situation. A really in-depth look at an emotional situation. Will reread this again as it was great.

I wouldn't recommend this. Obvious and far fetched at the same time. Seems written by a novice. Skip it.

Quite exciting and poignant . You feel for a widowed husband / father with a young son to bring up and protect. End leaves us all wondering about the final outcome. All in all a good read.

Not bad

Gradually picks up speed but peters out at the end - quite a relief actually! A fair bit of violence. Couldn't decide whether or not I liked the protagonist, but a touching relationship between him and his son.

Boo!

This is only 1\3 of a book, very little character development & a generic plot. Minimal suspense. Overall: don't bother.
