You best understand psychological concepts and strategies by experiencing them. Talking about them is good. Experiencing and then talking about them is much better.
Fritz begins exactly where you are right now as you read this sentence. His goal is to make you fully aware of the NOW---be it beautiful or ugly, boring or ecstatic, petty or glorious. His techniques, theory, pomposity and blustering are all designed to shake you into the NOW. The NOW of this moment for you as you read this. The NOW for me as I type it. Being in the flow of the NOW gives you a more accurate map of Reality to better meet the needs of the moment, and increase the potential for love, joy, and adventure.
I fear our ancestors would see many of us smothered by layers and layers of words, living in piles of boxes, filling our days with lifeless habits. We have idealized nature and live a short distance from our bodies, far, far from an awareness of the flow of the NOW.
Those who have crossed, with direct eyes
to death’s other Kingdom,
remember us, if at all,
not as lost violent souls,
but only as the hollow men,
the stuffed men.
T. S. Eliot
Consider keeping a journal. Writing adds an important dimension to your adventures, and later reading what you wrote adds a second. The experiences of other people are often included, which adds a third.
You can do the chapters alone, or share with a group. If you have the opportunity, do both and notice the differences.
Use good judgment. If you are asked to do something that doesn’t feel right move on, perhaps to try another day.
