Ten years ago David Worral had plans to go to college and the potential for a beautiful future in front of him. One tragic accident later, he fled to California and reinvented himself as Dex, top porn model of Johnnies.

Dexs life is a tangled mess now, but the guys he works with only see the man who makes them believe even porn stars can lead normal lives. When Kane, one of Dexs coworkers, gets kicked out of his house, the least Dex can do is give him a place to stay. Kane may be a hyperactive muscle-bound psycho, but hes also a really nice guy. What could be the harm?

Except nothing is simplenot sex, not love, and not the goofy kid with the big dick and bigger heart who moves his life into Dexs guest room. When they start negotiating fractured pasts and broken friends, Dex wonders if Kanes honest nature can untangle the sadness that stalled his once-promising future. With Kane by his side, Dex just might be able to reclaim the boy he once wasand if he can do that, he can give Kane the home and the family he deserves.

I read Chase in Shadow earlier this year, but didn't have the emotional fortitude to jump right into the sequel. Fortunately Dex and Kane's journey is not nearly so tumultuous, but I'm still glad I waited awhile to read it. Since the two books overlap somewhat, we still get to witness Chase's crash-and-burn, although from a bit more distance, and Dex and Kane aren't all hearts and flowers all the time. That said, Dex in Blue isn't nearly so heart-wrenching, and after the first book, that's a bit of a relief. Kane, in particular, was just such a fun weirdly innocent, and heart-warming character! I simply adored him and his creatures. How in the world Amy Lane can make all those reptiles so adorable, I'll never understand. Johnnies is such a unique series about the sex trade, because the characters are genuinely happy there. It's a good place to work, with good people, and they never try to make it feel dirty, and that's the whole point of Johnnies. However, they also take "casual sex" to a whole new level, so if that's going to bother you, I don't know that I would recommend this for you. I love the direction Dex starts to take with the business at the end of the book, and can't wait to see how it works out in the future! Dex and Kane are so oblivious to their own relationship, it's almost funny. If it weren't also so sad, but as an excuse they do have a lot going on in their life. Still, I loved how they hardly realized anything was happening until they were already in love. They were so sweet and so very, very hot all at the same time. Waiting anxiously for Ethan in Gold now!
